NOTICE

Due to some very serious health issues, this website has not been updated for some time.  My apologies to all.  If these problems can eventually be resolved, the page will be up and functioning as normal in a short while.  Until then, I will try to make sporadic updates as circumstances allow.
In the event of my having to give up the management of the website and of shutting down the site, if anyone would be interested in taking over and continuing the site as you see fit, please let me know.

Thanks for you patience!

GREG
MCGRAIL'S
DRUMKEERIN
GENEALOGY PAGE

This page is dedicated to Edward Christopher McGrail, who, in 1871 at the age of 13, bid farewell to his family and friends in the village of Drumkeerin, in County Leitrim, Ireland, and left, never to return.  After traveling through Scotland, he eventually immigrated to America. where he worked as a cowboy in the wilds of Montana.  In 1874, during a cattle drive on the great western plains, he awoke on his sixteenth birthday to find himself buried under two feet of snow.
In the 1890's, he worked in the slaughter houses of Chicago, and eventually made his way to New York City, where he married and rasied a family.  There, he worked for the railroad at the back-bracking job of a fireman on a steam locomotive.
He was a strong, powerful man, possessed of  of the highest principles and standards, and unerringly devoted to his family and his Faith.  Almost a century separated our births, and all that I 've learned of the man  was taught me by his son, who idolized him.
It's my great loss never to have known my grandfather.
